Q: Who owns the rights to my book if I publish with Built in the Shadows?
A: You do. As a traditional-style publisher, we do not take your copyright. We help you bring your vision to life and distribute it professionally.
Q: What’s included in the Author Submission Packet?
A: Intake form, FAQ, contract sample, and contact info. Everything you need to know before you commit.
Q: Will I have creative control over my book cover and formatting?
A. Yes, absolutely. We believe your book should reflect your voice and vision. Our team will guide you with design and formatting options, but your input is welcome every step of the way. Final approval is always yours.
Q: How long does the publishing process take?
A: On average, 6–12 weeks depending on editing needs and how quickly materials are submitted.
Q: Do I need to have a finished manuscript before applying?
A. Not at all! While having a completed manuscript helps speed up the process, we also work with authors at every stage from rough drafts to halfway done. As long as you’re committed to finishing your book, we’re committed to helping you bring it to life.
Q: Can I still sell my book elsewhere if I publish with Built in the Shadows?
A. Yes! We handle distribution to major retailers (Amazon, TikTok Shop, etc.), you are always welcome to purchase author copies and sell them at events or in-person. You keep 100% of your profit from personal sales.
